UK fashion sales back on its feet in 2020: 1% growth in January
Fashion commerce in the British market has changed course in the first month of the year following the 3% decline in December.
United Kingdom’s fashion sales kickoff 2020 with a raise. Fashion sales in the British market have registered a year-on-year growth of 1% in the first month of the year, according to data from Office for National Statistics.
In month-on-month terms, the sector ended January with a growth of 3.9%. Consequently, fashion trade flipped the results of 2019. In December, fashion sales in the UK saw a 3% drop.
In British trade, retail sales, excluding service stations, registered a 2.2% rise in January compared to a year ago. In month-on-month, retail in the United Kingdom increased its revenue by 1.9% in the first month of the year.
In January, the sale of textiles, clothing, and footwear on the Internet in the British market accounted for 17.3% of the total sales. In the first month of the year, fashion ecommerce in the United Kingdom registered a year-on-year drop of 1.5%.
